Non-NHS examinations/Private Fees

Services such as private medical examinations, insurance claim forms, vaccination certificates, elderly driving, public service vehicle and HGV license examinations to name but a few, are outside the NHS and a fee is therefore payable.  Full details of services available and the relevant charges are available below.

Phlebotomy Service

We now have our own phlebotomist, appointments can be made with her at our reception desk. As well as there being phlebotomy drop in clinics at Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital, there is also one at Bulwell Riverside. Appointments can be made from Monday to Wednesday.

Please make sure you have your blood form when attending your appointment.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgical procedures can be arranged at the surgery after an initial consultation with you doctor. Dr Graham or Dr Havenga a carry out all minor surgery procedures and Dr Havenga and Dr Batstone undertake steroid and joint injections

This covers a wide range of surgical procedures, including the removal of cysts or lumps and injections into joints and around tendons, removal of moles and other problems amenable to the surgery.

If you have any concerns, please ask your doctor.

Maternity Services

Antenatal clinics are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

Postnatal Check appointments (done six weeks after delivery) take longer than antenatal appointments and include you having an internal examination, together with a cervical smear if you are due for one.

Holiday Immunisations

If travelling abroad, especially outside Europe, you may need extra vaccinations.

Please ask at reception for a travel vaccination form at least 6 weeks prior to travel. On return a pre-assessment will be undertaken by a nurse, you will then be contacted with an appointment if needed. They now have guidelines on offering a wide range of vaccinations which often need to be given a month or longer before travelling. Therefore, we advise you to make your appointment as least four weeks before your date of travel whenever possible.

She will also discuss with you the risks involved in some countries with sun, food, water, hygiene, HIV, insect bites etc., and what medication and first aid items you should take with you.

Health Screening

We believe that the prevention of disease is just as important as treating it and there are ways in which you can help:

Cervical Smears

For women ages between 25 and 65 every three years. If you have any questions about this ask the practice nurse, receptionist or doctor. We offer cervical smears by appointment with the practice nurse. Many of you do come regularly but there are many who do not, despite our reminders. This only takes a few minutes in the surgery and is usually painless.

Rubella (German Measles)

Screening for those women not previously vaccinated, before their first intended pregnancy.

Regular blood pressure and urine checks

For those over 40. Water specimen bottles are available from reception.

Cholesterol blood testing

Mammography

For women over 50.

Please see the Doctor if you notice any lump in your breast. Most lumps are harmless and of little consequence, but it is important to exclude anything serious as early as possible.

Elderly Person Screening

All patients over the age of 75 are offered a screening examination carried out by our practice nurse. It will always be useful to have a sample of urine available.

Health Promotion

Patients are entitled to a health check upon registration.

The practice holds health promotion clinics, screening clinics and other special clinics throughout the week by pre-arrangement or special appointment. Existing patients are offered health checks if a doctor has not seen them for three years or more. Information about these clinics can be obtained from the receptionists.

Flu Vaccinations

By appointment with the practice nurse during early autumn.

We recommend flu vaccinations for all elderly patients and patients with severe or chronic illnesses that have been advised by the doctor.

The Department of Health recommends that all patients with asthma, chronic heart disease, chronic renal failure, diabetes and anybody with a form of immunosuppression be offered flu vaccination.

Flu vaccinations are also recommended for all residents of nursing homes, residential homes and long stay facilities where there is a risk of rapid spread of any such infection.

Family Planning

A full family planning service is available with a complete range of family planning advice from the traditional to the most up-to-date techniques.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate in speaking to your doctor or the practice nurse. Remember, if you are taking the pill, you will need to see your doctor/nurse annually for a pill check-up consultation.

Diabetic Clinic

Diabetic patients should have regular checks that will be with both their doctor and the practice diabetic nurse.

Diabetic patients are entered into a recall system and will receive an invite to be seen either six or twelve monthly. You will be advised on all aspects of diabetic care and we can make sure that your treatment is up to date and having the desired effect.
